Google Webmaster Tools (GWMT) Integration
gShift’s Google Webmaster Tools integration offers agencies and brands the ability to supplement keyword research data, gain insight into any website errors such as 404 pages or crawl issues and keyword phase search impressions, average rank and click through data.
Once you authorize access to your Webmaster Tools account, gShift will begin to pull data on a daily basis. In order to gain access to impression, average rank and click through data, you must follow an advanced set-up plan. You can either add a gShift-provided email address (recommended) as a user within the Webmaster Tools account or you will need to provide your gShift Client Success Manager with your own email address, which has access to your Webmaster account. We are following Google’s authorization instructions, which follow the same security protocol we use to authorize access to your Google Analytics data. However, this part of GWT has legacy authorization, which we need to follow to access this data.
There have been many blog posts from industry experts on the subject of the quality of GWT data. The verdict is: you should take this data “with a grain of salt”. At gShift, we are always optimisti the data quality will improve over time. However, some of the factors you need to be aware of are:
- Average Rank is not 100% accurate as it does not take into account any localization or country-specific indexes.
- Average Rank does not take into effect any web presence pages (YouTube Videos, Blog Posts, Press Releases, Social Media sites and/or other urls).
- All of your keywords will not be listed.
- Click through data will not correlate with your Google Analytics Organic Traffic.

Why is it important for me to integrate Google Webmaster Tools with gShift?
By connecting Google Webmaster Tools with gShift, you can view your site’s internal and external anchor text, keyword research, error messages and gain Not Provided keyword insights.
How do I connect Google Webmaster Tools to gShift?
Within your presence, go to “Manage” and click on your website’s hyperlink underneath the site’s thumbnail to access the GWMT authorization panel.
Once you have clicked on the link, scroll down to the “Google Webmaster” section. Make sure you are logged in with the correct account, then click on “Authorize”.
You will see a new message appear to contact Support to access Search Queries. If you would like to see this data, please file a ticket via gShift Support from the Resources section in the header navigation or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
How long will it take for the Google Webmaster Tools information to display?
Once you have connected your GWMT account, you will see your data within 24-48 hours.
How often do you get the data from WMT?
This data is collected daily.
How long is the past data accessible in gShift?
You will have the information available to you for the full duration of your subscription.
Can you import historical data?
We can provide you with the last 30 days of data.
Secure Search | Not Provided Page-Level Insights
Challenge: Hidden organic keyword phrase traffic is a real problem. Both Google and Yahoo are hiding keywords delivering organic traffic.
Which keywords are working remains a very important metric. Our Keyword Insights algorithm helps to identify the keywords behind Not Provided traffic at the web page level by using the following data:
- page level ranking data
- industry standard ranking position click through rates
- monthly search volume for your default search engine in gShift
- page level Google Analytics data.
You need all four data points mapped to your followed keyword phrases in order to improve your level of accuracy.
Use Case: A new piece of content (e.g. on-site page or blog post) is created to establish visibility for a few specific long tail keywords. These keywords are followed in gShift. Not Provided metrics will be provided in gShift for the designated piece of content.
What insights can be uncovered? If 100 visitors came to your new blog post via organic search traffic and the keywords associated with the traffic is labeled as “Not Provided” by Google Analytics, then gShift will help to identify the majority of those keyword phrases.
For example, if you are ranking #1 for a keyword in Google, then we apply an industry standard click-through metric based on monthly search volume. In other words, if the keyword is on average searched upon 100 times per month, then we can assert the number of visitors delivered based on the keyword because you are ranking #1. We will still have additional unallocated Not Provided keywords in this example. However, if there was another keyword for the content which is ranking, then we will look at it as well based on the same algorithm.
SEO Report Export to Microsoft Word
Many agencies are looking to include additional marketing or insightful data points into monthly reports. gShift has listened and has developed a mechanism to export your SEO Report in Word Format. This will enable you to further format and/or adjust the report to your liking or combine it with other content you maintain in Word.
