The digital world has been buzzing the last several weeks over the news that Google will be expanding the use of their mobile-friendliness as a ranking signal. Google made this announcement, stating that this change will help searchers find more mobile-friendly content.
“Starting April 21, we will be expanding our use of mobile-friendliness as a ranking signal. This change will affect mobile searches in all languages worldwide and will have a significant impact in our search results. Consequently, users will find it easier to get relevant, high quality search results that are optimized for their devices.” – Google Webmaster Team
Google’s Zineb Ait Bahajji, of the Webmaster Trends team, was recently quoted at SMX Munich that this change will have more of an impact on Google’s search results than Google Panda or Penguin updates did. In other words, if your website is not mobile-friendly you could face a negative impact in your mobile search rankings.
In order to prepare for this change, gShift is putting together a collection of mobile search data and optimization tips. We will be focusing on why mobile SEO is important for search, but also why you should be factoring mobile SEO into your content marketing strategy as well. We will be delivering this content to you over the next four weeks.
