Over the past couple of years, the Province of Ontario has become the central hub of technology innovation within Canada. With hundreds of thriving and emerging tech companies planting roots in Ontario, this innovative reputation is not going away. gShift is proud to be a strong part of the trend with our headquarters in Barrie, Ontario.
So just how big is the tech sector in Ontario? In 2013, the stretch of Highway 401 connecting Toronto to Waterloo became the second largest innovation corridor, next to Silicon Valley, in North America. As reported last year in the Globe and Mail, the Toronto-Waterloo corridor alone employs 280,000 people and is contributing more than $30 billion annual to the global economy.
And this is just one small section. We have also seen the development of highly nurturing tech hubs form out of the northern GTA and west into Ottawa. The province is rich with resources such as meetups, professional associations, venture capitalists and students from leading technology universities such as Waterloo and Ryerson.
“The Ontario technology ecosystem is extremely strong. With great early stage investors including MaRS, Growthworks and Brightspark plus the Regional Innovation Centres such as VentureLab and Innovation Factory, entrepreneurs have an abundance of financial and mentorship support. For later stage companies, AceTech Ontario fuels knowledge and leadership initiatives for technology CEOs to scale globally. Ontario’s tech landscape helps innovation survive and thrive.” – Krista LaRiviere, Co-founder & CEO, gShift
To highlight the success of Ontario’s technology growth, G2 Crowd evaluated their user review data on more than 80 companies who list their headquarters as Ontario. G2 Crowd builds their Gridscapes through a rating scale for products and vendors. This process is based on reviews gathered from their user community, as well as data aggregated from online sources and social networks.
gShift is no stranger to the G2 Crowd Gridscape process, after being listed as a high performer on the Spring 2015 Organic Search Marketing Software grid. Once again, we have been listed as a high performer against our Ontario based peers and are proud to be helping lead the way for developing innovation for our province.
